The Peron banknotes are based on the design of a 5-peso banknote planned to be released following her 1952 death, but went unreleased due to the coup that toppled the regime of her widower, President General Juan Domingo Peron. She"s the first woman to appear on any Argentine banknote.

On March 2, 2015, the Central Bank put into circulation a new series of currency notes of 50 pesos in tribute to the defense of national sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.

On March 26, 2015 the sketch of a new 100 peso, dedicated to the Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo is presented.

Other Banknotes

In January 2016, former Central Bank President Alejandro Vanoli leaked the two designs he had ordered to issue $ 200 and $ 500 bills.

In the case of the paper of $ 200, the chosen person had been who was president twice, the radical Hipólito Yrigoyen. For the $ 500, had been decided by the also former president Juan Domingo Peron.

Vanoli made the announcement just a day after Mauricio Macri's government announced that he would redesign all the banknotes, launch papers of $ 200, $ 500 and $ 1,000, and a $ 10 coin.
